Ideal for Lead and Lithium Batteries
The Victron Energy Blue Smart IP22 Charger is designed for years of trouble-free and reliable operation under all conditions. It reliably charges all 12-volt batteries, whether AGM, lead-gel, lead-acid, or lithium-ion (LiFePO4), with up to 15 A of charging current. When the integrated Li-Ion charging mode is selected, the charging cycle settings are changed accordingly. The high efficiency of up to ~93% reduces power consumption and heat generation. The operation of the charger is completely silent while the fan is off. The fan is only activated under high load when necessary. In night or low mode, the maximum output current is reduced to 50% of the nominal value, and the fan remains off. In addition to its main function, the charger can be used as a DC power supply with a constant voltage for power supply. With IP22 protection (for indoor use) according to DIN EN 60529 (VDE 0470-1), the charger is protected against access to hazardous parts with a finger from Ø 12 mm, against solid foreign objects from Ø 12.5 mm, and against dripping water at an angle of up to 15°. The VictronConnect app on a Bluetooth-enabled device, such as a smartphone or tablet, makes it especially easy to set up, monitor, or update the firmware of the charger.
Optimized Charging Process
The multi-stage charging algorithm is specifically designed to optimize each charging cycle and the maintenance of charge over longer periods. The adaptive absorption monitors the battery's response during the initial charge and intelligently determines the appropriate absorption duration for each individual charging cycle. This ensures that the battery is fully charged regardless of the level of discharge or capacity and avoids too long a time at the increased absorption voltage (which can accelerate battery aging). The charging voltage is automatically compensated according to the ambient temperature. This ensures that the battery is charged with the optimal final charge voltage regardless of the climate, avoiding the need for manual adjustments. Temperature compensation is not required and is automatically disabled in Li-Ion charging mode.
Important Protection Features
Thanks to overheating protection, the output current is reduced if the temperature of the charger rises to +50°C. An integrated cooling fan maintains a low temperature under very demanding conditions and avoids the need for power reduction. If a short circuit is detected, the charger immediately shuts off. If the charger is mistakenly connected to a battery with reverse polarity, the user-replaceable fuse will blow.
Regeneration and Maintenance
In the optional regeneration phase, the degradation of lead-acid batteries due to sulfation can be partially reversed or restored. Sulfation is typically caused by insufficient charging or by a prolonged period in a deeply discharged state. A deeply discharged battery (even down to 0 V) can be recharged with low current and then in the normal charging process once the battery voltage has sufficiently increased.
