Charging Booster with Additional Power Supply Mode
The Nordelettronica NE325-25A DC/DC converter is a charging booster for charging the supply battery via the alternator. Often, alternators of Euro-6 engines provide too low a charging voltage, making the charging booster necessary to charge the supply battery while the vehicle is running. For lithium batteries with their very low internal resistance, the charging booster is also required to limit the alternator's charging current and protect the system from overheating or damage. The DC/DC converter operates only when the vehicle is running. This is achieved through the release input ("D+ DC/DC") connected to the vehicle's ignition.
Use as a Charger
The charging booster functions as a battery charger when the output is connected to the battery upon switching on. Depending on the battery type, the charging algorithm is set using a DIP switch. When turned on, the green blinking LED indicates which algorithm has been selected. The battery charger operates according to the IUoU curve. After reaching the nominal charging voltage, the subsequent maintenance charge counteracts the battery's self-discharge. It is possible to connect a temperature sensor to the charger and attach it to the battery to optimize the chosen charging algorithm based on the measured battery temperature.
Operation in Power Supply Mode
The charging booster operates as a power supply unit when the output is not connected to the battery upon power-on. In this mode, the green LED flashes and the output voltage is set to 13.8 V.
Multiple Protection
For safe operation, the Nordelettronica NE325-25A is protected against short circuit, overload, overvoltage, and overheating. With the optionally used temperature sensor, the battery is additionally protected against overheating. The system is equipped with a 30-A fuse at the negative terminal. With an IP20 protection rating, the charging booster is protected against touch with the finger and against medium-sized solid foreign objects (diameter ≥ 12 mm) but is not protected against contact with water.
